Sculptra NYC

What is Sculptra NYC?

Sculptra is a FDA-approved dermal filler that is safe, synthetic, and biodegradable and used to treat wrinkles, skin creases, depressions, and folds. Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) that is commonly used as a component of dissolvable sutures and surgical implants. It is made to replicate a natural derivative created by the muscles during exercise. With sculptra being biodegradable, it can be gradually broken down and naturally removed from the body.

What does it do?

Sculptra is suitable for patients with deep facial wrinkles, fine lines, smile lines, chin wrinkles, and nasolabial folds. This filler helps improve the appearance of facial volume and eliminate wrinkles dramatically. Sculptra is injected under the surface of the skin of the areas of concern. After a few weeks following treatment, it will stimulate the production of your own collagen. This new collagen will gradually produce and improve the appearance of the skin.

Sculptra vs. Other Dermal Fillers

The biggest difference between Sculptra and other dermal fillers we offer is the material used in the filler. Unlike other fillers, Sculptra’s results can last up to two years while others last for only a few months. Sculptra is also a synthetic, meaning it is not derived from human, animal or plant sources. Sculptra is also biodegradable, thus it will not harm the body. It is also a filler that is evenly distributed in the area of concern. Sculptra is massaged under the skin to fill out the area that is treated when most fillers are usually ‘spot’ injections.

Similarly to other dermal fillers, the procedure is short with minimal pain. Prior to the procedure, Dr. David Shokrian will cleanse the area of treatment with an antibacterial wipe and examine your facial appearance with the patient. If desired, a numbing cream can be used to provide more comfort and less pain during the procedure. Using a very fine syringe needle, Sculptra will be injected under the surface of the skin. Immediately after injection, the treated areas will be gently massaged for a few minutes to evenly distribute the filler. Massaging the areas can also help prevent bumps and nodules to form under the skin. One procedure can last for about 15 minutes.

Recovery and Results

Prior to the procedure, patients may expect swelling, redness, and bruising. Like other dermal fillers, the side effects of Sculptra will subside within a few hours to a few days depending on the amount of Sculptra used. We recommend patients to avoid any excessive sun exposure or tanning beds until the redness and swelling has resolved. Patients may apply a cold pack on the treated areas with 3 minute intervals to help with the swelling or bruising.

All side effects from the procedure should be resolved within two weeks and results should be more visible to the patient. Results are gradual and are extremely long lasting. Sculptra can last for up to two years or longer.
